Visiting Ascoli Piceno during la Quintana festival is definitively a great idea. The city has medieval origins and in 1955 a group of citizens in love with Ascoli Piceno’s historical traditions decided to restore an ancient event: the knight joust of La Quintana. This incredible reenactment, with historical customs, the colorful parade and the horse race, make the city look like it was in the XV century taking you in a journey back in time.
The “Ponte Majore” Horse Race Stadium is the sacred location where the Quintana takes place. Six knights take part in the joust, and every knight represents one of Ascoli’s district. They compete on horseback, armed with long wooded lances, and they have to launch the lance into the target, a puppet named “The Dark” (Il Moro) with a shield on his arm.
You shouldn’t miss the procession for the celebration of Saint Anna and Saint Emidion, the patron of the city, with the choreographic flag-throwing competition and the historical parade with 15th-century costumes.

Transfer from the airport (Rome, Ancona, Bologna, Pescara) to Ascoli Piceno. Check-in at the hotel and welcome aperitivo in the historical Caffè Meletti (one of the most ancient in Italy). Welcome dinner at a local osteria.

After breakfast, meeting and briefing with the guide, and full guided tour of Ascoli focusing on the Quintana event. The city has medieval origins and Renaissance squares, hosting domes, spires and bell towers and filled with the golden hue of its travertine architecture. The city is surrounded on three sides by two rivers, Tronto and Castellano and just walking around the city can give you amazing views and incredible spots. The guide will then take you to the joust to live first person the Quintana event.
